About Us

Jo Gusman founded New Horizons In Education in 1984, with the intention and vision to be of service and empower teachers, school district and education agency administrators, curriculum program developers and publishers, business leaders, and policymakers. She developed the neuroscience-based Foundation-Frameworks-Tools Model© to enable them to respond to the sociocultural, language and literacy, cognitive, and academic needs of culturally and linguistically diverse learners and their families.

Our goal is to continue to deliver cutting-edge professional development information and tools that will empower educators to improve the quality of their school environment, instruction, relationships and community. To achieve this goal, Jo Gusman and her associates designed Mind-Brain-Education Science-based professional learning services that they conduct through workshops, personalized keynote addresses, Foundation-Frameworks-Tools Model Trainer-of-Trainers Institutes^©, Listen-Learn-Lead: Transformational Leadership Coaching^©, Review-Recommendation-Results: State and Federal Program Quality Reviews^©, Language and Biliteracy curriculum program design guidance for education material publishers and community-building retreats.

Jo Gusman and her associates also create tailored neuroscience-based tools, such as Foundation-Frameworks-Tools Model Seminar Resource Handbooks©, VisualEyes Solution Seeker Laminated Guides™, multilingual-multicultural resource materials, curated curriculum and instruction material guides, and classroom-ready teaching materials.

Since its inception in 1984, New Horizons In Education has expanded its horizons from California to a global scope, now conducting workshops throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

Jo Gusman

Jo grew up in a Spanish-speaking family that faced the many obstacles that farm working, non-English speaking families experience. As a “limited English speaker,” during her childhood, she became the first in her family to learn English, but even so she found herself excluded in school because she spoke Spanish, educators and students did not value or understand her culture, and also due to her family’s socioeconomic status.

As a result, Jo truly understands the complexities and multiple variables that surround your Culturally and Linguistically Diverse learners and their families. While some people view cultural and linguistic differences as deficits, Jo sees them as asset-based superpowers. She proudly tells fellow educators, students and policy makers, “I, like your students, am a Bilingual-Biliterate-Bicultural-Bicognitive learner. These superpowers serve as my foundation, and they influence and inform my message, methods and materials.”

Scott Anthony

Scott Anthony, grew up in Lexington, Nebraska, in a farm family who valued education. His mom was a one-room schoolhouse teacher and his dad, a farmer, served as President of the school board of their rural school district.

Scott, a graduate of the University of Nebraska, College of Engineering, went on to specialize in construction management, with a specialty in church building. Scott provided construction management services to over 200 church projects throughout the United States and abroad.
